Thursdays are the day that I have get a good night’s sleep for. Because I’m out of the house for more than 12 hours… I have to mentally prepare myself for today.
I drive to SMU at 6:30am, take two classes, and teach 7 students in the afternoon until 8pm. Then I collapse and eat.
I’m not writing to complain about my situation. In fact, I allowed it to happen.
To give myself strength for Thursdays, I nickname this day “Thorsday” in my journal and I draw his huge hammer at the top of my day’s schedule. This reminds me that I can harness Thor’s power to get through the day. The day will pass by faster than lightning. When I feel low on energy, I imagine a bolt of lightning energy coming down energising me.
What I’m doing doesn’t take a lot of energy, I’m either sitting in class, teaching students, or practicing piano. Teaching 7 lessons in a row is mentally tiring. I’ll make sure to change this next semester.
A lot of people’s schedules might be similar to mine, rushing from one place to another, super stressful. Here are strategies that might help..
- Saying “no” saves you time and energy. Don’t say no, and you’ll have too many obligations.
- Meditate or take a short nap. Before I teach I make time to take a short 10 minute nap in my car. Yes, in my car. You can also meditate anywhere.
- Don’t stress about all that you have to do. Worrying takes away energy and is a waste of time.
- Write your entire day down in a journal. This helps you stay focused on what you need to do at what time.
I hope these help, they work a lot for me to help me get through the day.
